Sacred Heart Cathedral has announced Mike McNeill as the new head boys’ soccer coach for the Fightin' Irish.
McNeill was the assistant varsity coach this past season under Jeff Wilson, who resigned after leading SHC to the CCS Division II championship. He also currently serves as Director of Coaching and PDL Technical Director for San Francisco’s largest youth soccer club, the San Francisco Glens.
McNeill was a two-year starter at San Francisco State, following a playing stint in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He has shown the same dedication to his coaching career by earning his UEFA “B” license and currently is obtaining his “A” license. McNeill has served on the United Soccer Coaches Technical Advisory Committee and was named 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Western Coach of the Year.
In additional to club coaching, McNeill has spent multiple years coaching at the collegiate level with San Francisco State and the University of San Francisco. Now, he looks to continue the recent trend of success in the Fightin' Irish program. In addition to winning a section title this past season, Sacred Heart Cathedral posted winning seasons in each of the last four years, with 53 victories during that stretch to close a long and successful run with Wilson at the helm.
