Blythe to do double-duty as Eastside Prep girls and boys basketball coach

June 7, 2018

An email from longtime Eastside College Prep girls assistant coach

Kevin “The Bodyguard” Seiter informed a few select media members on Thursday afternoon that Eastside girls basketball coach Donovan Blythe, who guided the Panthers girls to two-straight CIF Division V state championships in 2016-2017 after a runner-up state D5 finish in 2015, will be doing double-duty.

According to Seiter, Blythe, who coached boys in Chicago before coming west and switching to girls first at St. Ignatius to coach his daughter, and since 2007 at Eastside Prep, will now assume double-duty as both the girls and boys Panthers varsity basketball coach for the 2018-2019 season.

Trying to re-collect coaches that have coached both girls and boys at the same time and had notable success takes us back to the late 1990’s and 2001 when Fentriss Winn got the boys from the Bishop’s School-La Jolla to a SoCal Regional championship in 1998 where they lost to Verbum Dei-Los Angeles, and then while still guiding both the boys and girls won the 2001 CIF state Division IV girls championship with a win over St. Mary’s-Stockton.
