Foothill-Pleasanton graduate Brandon Crawford and Archbishop Mitty alum Mitch Haniger were both selected for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Sunday, with Crawford getting the nod as the starting shortstop for the National League, his first time selected as a starter.
Crawford is batting .300 with 10 home runs for the San Francisco Giants this season, and the Gold Glove winner has already registered 63 double plays, putting him on pace to set a new career high in that category. The veteran shortstop was a multi-sport standout in high school for the Falcons, also serving as the starting quarterback on the gridiron. This is Crawford's second overall All-Star selection.
Haniger, meanwhile, is batting .273 with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs for the Seattle Mariners, in his second full season in the majors. The latter marks have already eclipsed his season totals from 2017, when injury cut his season short. The former Monarch has also notched nine assists from the outfield. This is his first All-Star Game selection.
The All-Star Game is on Tuesday, July 17, at 5 pm.
