The upcoming Area Code Games, played August 6-10 in Long Beach, will showcase a wide array of baseball talent from across Northern California, on the team representing the Oakland Athletics this year.
Only three schools had more than one player who made the team this summer, but it's no surprise that one of those teams is Valley Christian, which had a pair of outfielders - Steven Zobac and Coleman Brigman - selected to the roster. The 6-foot-3 Zobac is also expected to get some time on the mound.
Other players from the Central Coast Section include utility player GJ Hill (Santa Cruz), pitcher Nate Fleischlii (Sacred Heart Prep), and catcher/pitcher Joseph King (Woodside).
One of the other teams with multiple selections is Monte Vista-Danville, which saw infielder Tom Gavello and pitcher Josh White selected to the roster. Other players from the North Coast Section include infielder Kyren Paris (Freedom), catcher Brock Rudy (Northgate), catcher Connor Lawrence (California), and outfielder Michael Dixon (Berkeley).
The program with the most selections is Buchanan, another perennial powerhouse from the Central Section. The Bears had three players - pitcher TJ Fondtain, outfielder Brock Jones, and outfielder Miguel Ortiz - named to the roster. The Central Section is also represented by Redwood-Visalia pitcher/infielder Hunter Bryan.
The Sac-Joaquin Section had the most selections, with nine players representing the SJS named to the roster. Defending Division I champion Vacaville is represented by pitcher Devereaux Harrison, while other players include pitcher Seth Tomczak (Argonaut-Jackson), first baseman Xavier Carter (Capital Christian), pitcher Peter Hansen (Oak Ridge), pitcher Ryan Harvey (Woodcreek), pitcher Cooper Hjerpe (Woodland), infielder Bryson McArn (Pleasant Grove), pitcher Cade Pilchard (Jesuit), and outfielder Nick Vogt (Davis).
The Oakland Section had one player make the roster, represented by Oakland Tech infielder Adam Crampton.
The Area Code Games include teams representing eight major league organizations, as competition will include rosters from the Royals, Rangers, Yankees, Brewers, Nationals, Reds, and White Sox.
