There was no question during the regular season that the top two teams from the Mission Valley Athletic League were Moreau Catholic and James Logan. The end of the year awards certainly reflected that as well, with Moreau Catholic junior Jaylen 'Fresh' Ison and James Logan senior Daylon Brown being named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
In 10 games played so far this season, Ison has been a multi-faceted weapon for the Mariners. At running back, he has carried the ball 90 times for 1,523 yards and 24 touchdowns, a whopping average of 16.9 yards per carry. He has also scored twice on punt returns and another time on a kickoff return. Add in one touchdown through the air, and that is 28 touchdowns scored as Moreau heads into the North Coast Section Division IV semifinals this weekend.
Brown, meanwhile, anchored the Colts' defense from his end position on the line, leading them to a 5-1 mark in league play and a berth in the Division I playoffs, and scored twice in limited time on the offensive side of the ball.
