BELMONT - A rain-aided fifth inning saw Carlmont score six times on Wednesday, as the Scots pulled away from Santa Clara for a 9-1 victory in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs.
Jason Korjeff earned the win for Carlmont, allowing just the one earned run on five hits over four and two-thirds innings. Tyler DeSmidt continued to swing a hot bat for the Scots, driving in Carlmont's first run in the bottom of the first with a ground ball to short, which scored Jasper Loo. In the third inning, DeSmidt smashed a two-run double to center field, driving in Logan Snow and David Bedrosian.
Daniel Friis and JP Avila both had RBI doubles during the big fifth inning. The game was called after the top of the sixth innng, due to rain. Carlmont now faces Leland on Saturday, at West Valley College, in the quarterfinals.
