Mission Viejo is headed to Sacramento.
The Diablos (15-0) extended their win streak to 27 games as they defeated San Diego Helix 32-28 in the CIF-State Division I-AA regional bowl game on Friday night.
The game was close throughout. Helix was in front 28-26 with less than five minutes remaining. But Colin Schooler scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes left and the Diablos held on from there.
Mission Viejo used a strong running performance from Schooler to capture the win. Schooler rushed for 160 yards and had three touchdowns on the night.
Despite the late touchdown the Diablos needed a late interception by Olaijah Griffin to stop Helix’s comeback attempt.
Helix running back Nate Stinson rushed for 275 yards and four touchdowns in the loss.
Mission Viejo will play San Jose Bellarmine Prep in the state championship bowl game on Dec. 18 in Sacramento.
