Pete Garza has resigned as the Canyon Springs-Moreno Valley football coach.
“As a head coach too much time away from my family,” Garza said by email. “I have four young children.”
Garza has two biological children and two adopted this year. He said he needs to make their transition to his family comfortable and stable and “they need a dad at home.”
Garza took over the program in 2011 from Lance Pfeffer. His teams had one winning season, in 2013, going 6-5. The Cougars opened the 2013 season with three wins, lost three consecutive games, then defeated Vista del Lago and Valley View to make the post-season. Kaiser ended the Cougars 2013 season with a 49-0 defeat in the playoffs.
The 2015 team went 0-10. Garza compiled a 9-42 record at the school that has been known over the years for its success in girls basketball. NBA basketball star Kawhi Leonard played there before transferring to King-Riverside; and Citrus Hill-Perris football coach Eric Zomalt, a former Cal and NFL player, also played at Canyon Springs.
