December 8, 2017

Host Liberty had no trouble in the opener of its own Stonebarger Tournament on Thursday night, racing past overmatched Central Valley-Ceres, 65-14.

Senior Ryan Dutt had a game-high 14 points for the Lions, who also got eight points each from seior Ben Smith and junior Skylar Newman. Senior guard Jack Harris added seven points in the win.

Liberty's lopsided win followed one of the best games of the day, as Campolindo broke loose from a tie game with Kimball-Tracy with three minutes remaining, pulling away for the 65-57 victory.

Senior Trevin Kroichick poured in a game-high 25 points for the Cougars, hitting four three-pointers in the process. That included a buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter, which gave eight points in the opening quarter and staked Campo to a three-point lead.

The Cougars maintained the three-point advantage at halftime, and led by five at the end of three, but the Jaguars rallied to tie the game late before Campolindo pulled away again. Sophomore guard Carter Mahaney hit four free throws down the stretch to help ice the game, and finished the game with 11 points.

Kroichick hit a pair of threes in the final quarter, and junior David Ahazie finished the game with 20 points to help pace the Cougars, who improved to 5-0 with the victory.

Campolindo and Liberty play each other in the semifinals on Friday night.
