NCS girls soccer: Foothill rallies to stay unbeaten, and more

Having gone unbeaten in its first 10 matches this season, the Foothill girls soccer team was in danger of facing defeat for the first time, trailing at halftime to Dougherty Valley on Tuesday.

The Falcons rallied to stay unblemished, however, using goals from sophomores Megan Guerra and Audriana Templeman to win 2-1.

With the victory, Foothill improved to 9-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in EBAL play, while Dougherty Valley fell to 3-6-1, 0-5.

Around the EBAL

California and Granada were scoreless at halftime, but junior Nikki Trucco scored the game-winner for the Grizzlies in the second half, assisted by senior Leila Rendich.

Trucco's game-winner was her 12th goal this season, and improved California to 9-1-3 overall, 3-1-2 in league play. Granada fell to 1-7-1, 0-5.

Carondelet continued to get outstanding play from Cassidy Tshimbalanga and company, defeating Livermore 4-1.

Tshimbalanga scored her 18th goal of the season in the victory, and was joined in the scoring column by Angelina Scoma, Ella Collier, and Ellie Ospeck. The Cougars improved to 11-3-2, 3-2-1. Livermore dropped to 7-4-1, 2-3.

Monte Vista and Amador Valley met in a battle of unbeatens that never lived up to the hype. The Mustangs built a two-goal lead by halftime and then really pulled away, winning by an astonishing 6-0 final score.

The top-ranked team in the NCS, Monte Vista is now 12-0-1 overall, 5-0-1 in league, while Amador Valley falls to 8-1-2, 2-1-2.

Around the NCS

El Cerrito stayed unbeaten in TCAL-Rock action, defeating Albany 4-2, behind a pair of goals from freshman Karuna Sakya-Hooper. Alyssa Cho and Raniyah Burton also found the back of the net, while Jenna Van Pelt had two assists.

El Cerrito improves to 7-3-2 overall, 6-0-1 in league, while Albany falls to 6-7, 3-4.

San Leandro continued its dominating play in the WACC-Shoreline, routing winless San Lorenzo, 5-0. Valeria Flores, Bryanna Felarza, Joanna Sanchez, Katherine Magana, and Gabriella Castillo all notched goals for the Pirates, who improved to 10-3-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.

James Logan continued to mow down all Mission Valley opponents, cruising past winless Washington, 4-0.

The Colts got two goals from senior Vanessa Mejia, and goals from sophomore Anelis Amezquita and freshman Leslie Murillo. Logan is now 6-0-1 in MVAL play.
