Marin Catholic softball stays hot

March 31, 2019

Marin Catholic came into its Friday game with host St. Ignatius with three-straight wins after the Prep2Prep No. 10 ranked Wildcats took a lone loss to a for real Presentation, and although it wasn’t easy the Wildcats from Kentfield defeated the Wildcats from San Francisco, 5-4 in eight innings.

With the score tied 3-3 after seven innings, Marin Catholic sophomore pitcher and slugger Annabel Teperson hit a two run home run for a 5-3 lead and then had to hold off the girls from the city after giving up a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Teperson went all the way and gave up four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. With bat in hand she was 2-for-4 with the home run and three RBI and a run scored.

Just like after the Presentation loss when he turned to freshman backup pitcher Rose Malen to take the circle against Palo Alto and she pitched a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 victory, Marin Catholic Coach Dave Albini called on her again on Saturday and the right-hander that has a variety of pitches she throws for strikes, did it again with a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 17-0 victory over Drake that earned Malen her first Marin County Athletic League victory and got the Wildcats to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in league.

Teperson homered for the second straight game and had four RBI, Utah-bound catcher Julia Scardina had three RBI, and Malen had a hit and an RBI.

The two Marin Catholic wins followed over a week in which they were rained out, including a scheduled showdown with a San Marin-Novato team that is already 5-0 in the MCAL and 8-2 overall after a Saturday 2-1 win over Capuchino-San Bruno.

Marin Catholic is next in action against San Rafael on Monday while San Marin has a Monday date at arch rival Novato.
