NCS Playoff Preview: Division 2

November 11, 2022

OVERVIEW

The field in Division II - like the Open/Division 1 field - has a similar cast of characters in the top four seeds only in a slightly different seeding order. San Ramon Valley is still the top seed like last year when they were defeated by No. 4 seed and eventual champion Campolindo in the semifinals, the No. 2 seed this year.

Rancho Cotate draws the No. 3 seed after being defeated last year in the semifinals as the No. 2 seed by last year’s No. 3 seed Foothill, the No. 4 seed this year. San Ramon Valley, which will be looking for a second D2 title since 2018 and fourth overall, won’t see Campolindo unless both teams make the title game. The Wolves will be huge favorites over No. 8 seed Berkeley and with a win, will host the winner of Foothill-Vintage in what could be an interesting matchup.

Campolindo opens with visiting No. 7 seed Granada while Rancho Cotate hosts sixth-seeded Livermore. Rancho Cotate blew out Granada last year in the first round and now gets the other school from Livermore this season. A Campolindo hosting Rancho Cotate matchup in the semifinals could be an interesting affair.

SLEEPER TEAM

Being a No. 3 seed doesn’t necessarily qualify as a sleeper, but Rancho Cotate is playing its fifth game with Jacob Pruitt at quarterback after the injury to Liam Keaney and his dual-threat abilities could be a factor.
