Plenty on line as regular season heads into final week

November 2, 2015

HOUSTON – Week 10 of the Texas high school football season is in the books, and several of the games in the Houston area this past weekend have assured that the final weekend of the regular-season will be memorable.

Dulles and Travis will now meet for the fourth and final spot in the District 23-6A on Friday after both emerged with must-have wins over the weekend. Dulles thumped Clements 39-8 and Travis defeated Hastings 46-10 to keep their playoff hopes alive. Travis and Dulles are both 5-4 overall and 3-3 in district play.

Morton Ranch rallied from 21-14 down to defeat Katy Taylor 31-21 on Saturday to position the Mavericks (4-5 overall, 3-3 District 19-6A) for a playoff spot if they can now beat Seven Lakes. The matchup also has big implications for the Seven Lakes Spartans (4-5, 2-4) after they stomped Mayde Creek 35-10 to snap a three-game losing streak and keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Bush High School, meanwhile, came up with its biggest win of the season by escaping Elkins with a 13-9 win. Now the Broncos (4-5, 3-3 District 23-5A) need a victory over Galveston Ball this up coming weekend to make it into the postseason. But as luck would have it, Ball (6-3, 3-3) also needs a win for a favorable bracket spot in the playoffs.

Clear Brook, which started the season 0-5 under first-year head coach Mike Allison, enters the final week of the regular season with a chance to make the 6A playoffs. The Wolverines (3-6 overall, 3-3 in District 24-6A) are coming off a stunning 31-0 win over Brazoswood on Saturday. Now they just need to defeat rival Friendswood by at least 13 points in the regular-season finale to make it into the postseason.

Clear Creek needed a touchdown pass from Chase Hildreth to Jaiden Woodson in the final 22 seconds to defeat Dickinson, 31-27, and gain at least a share of the 24-6A District title. Clear Creek enters the final week of the season 9-0, 6-0, while Dickson moved to 8-1 and 5-1 after suffering its first defeat of the season.

North Shore clinched its third straight district title by defeating LaPorte 33-0 in a 21-6A District game over the weekend. North Shore is 6-3 overall, 5-0 in district while LaPorte moved to 7-2, 4-1.

Hightower, meanwhile, wrapped up its undefeated season and regular season with a 38-20 win over Kempner on Friday night. Now the Hurricanes (10-0, 8-0 District 23-6A) have a bye week before entering the postseason.
