The hiring of Mike MacIntyre as the football coach at Colorado University may affect one of the Bay Area's premier programs.
MacIntyre has been the coach at San Jose State for the past three seasons and his son, Jay MacIntyre, was a junior quarterback at Valley Christian this past season.
Valley Christian coach Mike Machado said it is uncertain if Jay will return to Valley Christian in the fall.
"The family is discussing it," Machado said. "I discussed it with Mike yesterday and there will be an option for Jay if he wants to stay. He could certainly stay. I've had the kid since he was a sophomore and I'd love to have him finish with us. But I've had the sons of six NFL head coaches play for me and I know there are other aspects involved when a dad moves on."
Valley Christian, with running back Kirk Johnson and plenty of other stars returning next season, figures to be a contender for the West Catholic Athletic League and Central Coast Section Open Division titles.
Mike MacIntyre went 16-21 overall at San Jose State, but was improving the program after going 1-12 his first season. This year's team is 10-2.
Jay MacIntyre's season didn't start well at Valley Christian as he suffered a concussion early on. But he led the Warriors (8-6) to a berth in the CCS Division III title game where they defeated Aptos 51-20. MacIntyre completed 7-of-8 passes in that game for 116 yards and three touchdowns and also returned a fumble for a score and had an interception.
MacIntyre, for the season, threw for 979 yards, 11 touchdowns and was intercepted four times.
