CCS Freshman of the Year
HUNTER FUJIMOTO/QUINTEN MARSH, VALLEY CHRISTIAN
It's not customary to have co-players for any of the Prep2Prep individual awards, but in talking to sources and coaches in the
CCS and WCAL, including Valley Christian head coach John Diatte, no one could really separate
Hunter Fujimoto and Quinten Marsh. The result is instead of one freshman as the winner we have
two Warriors that are the Prep2Prep CCS Freshmen of the Year honorees.
"They both did some incredible things last season for freshmen,” Diatte said.
There were only two freshmen to earn all-WCAL honors and it was the Valley Christian duo that garnered Honorable Mention.
The left-handed hitting Fujimoto played left field and hit leadoff for Valley Christian. He batted a team-best .381, tied for
hits with 37, was among the team leaders with five doubles, second with 25 runs scored, and his
21 RBIs made him one of four Warriors to reach 20 for the season.
On the base paths Fujimoto was only caught stealing once and his 10 stolen bases tied for second on the team. As a fielder
Fujimoto was pretty sharp as well with a .971 fielding percentage.
Marsh is a left–handed pitcher who also played first base and designated hitter. On the mound, he made 11 appearances, including
seven starts. Pitching against some of the toughest competition in Northern California, Marsh was
5-1 with a 5.30 ERA and he had 34 strikeouts in 35.1 innings. He was 1-1 against WCAL playoff
champion, CCS Division I champion and state CIF Northern Regional Division I runner-up St. Francis.
His best outing came in a 7-5 win over St. Francis when he went five innings and gave up two hits
and one earned run with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
At the plate, Marsh hit .274 with a home run, four doubles, 11 RBIs And 12 runs scored.
Congratulations to Hunter Fujimoto and Quinten Marsh as the Prep2Prep CCS Freshmen of the Year.
