PITTSBURG,CA--- In their home opener the Pittsburg Pirates boys basketball team defeated the Redwood Giants, 58-43, with a big night from seniors Seu Kuka and Rickey Edmerson.
Pittsburg dominated the majority of the game, led by Kuka's game-high 20 points, while Edmerson added 16 points to create a strong one-two punch for the Pirates.
“Tonight really set the tone for me,” Edmerson stated. “I was able to settle down and get my buckets in.”
Pittsburg had a 35-23 lead at halftime, as they capped off the closing minutes with eight unanswered points
The Pirates continued to make runs in the second half, extending the lead to 52-37 by the end of the third quarter.
“Throughout the whole game we had the lead,” said Pittsburg coach Carson Padon. “They (Redwood) were coming back at us but we came up with some big shots.”
A standout player for Redwood was Chris Kress, who kept the Giants alive in the game as he totaled 18 points in the game.
Pittsburg improved to 2-0 with the win, and is back in action on December 6, when the Pirates host Clayton Valley. Redwood falls to 1-1 with the loss, and returns to action on December 6, on the road against Salesian.
