Muñoz' hat-trick contributes to Freedom victory

December 17, 2016

MARTINEZ,CA - Freedom pounded the net five times in the first half to put the match away early in a 6-0 victory over Alhambra, on Saturday.

Returning Bay Valley Athletic Leagye MVP Oscar Muñoz lived up to the title, as the senior notched a hat trick in the first half.

The beginning of Muñoz’ big-scoring day started when he dribbled through a pair of defenders, and he finished the sequence with a left-footed shot. Later, he received a pass from Eruvey Arceta, and from there took off down the middle of the field and split all four defenders to neatly finish it. Muñoz sealed his hat-trick with a easy chip shot.

“Felt good today,” said Muñoz. "Overall good team effort to get the victory."

Right after the completion of Muñoz’s hat trick, Daniel Cervantes scored his second goal of the game. Cervantes also scored the first goal of the game, which came 20 seconds into the match.

Grant LaFleur added one goal in the second half, to conclude the scoring. Arceta also recorded two assists in the game.

“I expected my boys to do well,” said Falcons coach Sal Acevedo. “I did think we scored more goals than we expected.”

Freedom is back in action Monday night as they travel to Concord to face the Minutemen. Alhambra will open up against the common opponent in league play, against Concord on January 7th
