Analy wins nail biter to open Windsor Shootout

December 28, 2016

WINDSOR, CA - In one of the better games of the day, Analy's boys basketball team improved to 9-3 with an exciting 40-37 win over Albany on Wednesday.

Aidan Toner-Rodgers made his presence known in the third quarter as he scored all of the Tigers' 13 points in the quarter. He used a couple of old-fashioned three-point plays and a couple of three pointers to lead the Tigers in the quarter. With the game tied at 27, Rogers drove the lane, scored, and dropped in a free throw that put Analy up for good.

Rodgers continued his great game as he scored four more of what would be 21 points for him, in the final quarter. Avri Finch and Eric Mireri kept the Cougars in the game throughout the final eight minutes.

Both teams missed crucial free throws, but as Joe Chanin-Meiers free throw went off the rim for Analy, Mireri had a chance for a 35-foot shot and it hit front iron, allowing Analy to hold on for a 40-37 win.

“Rodgers had a great game.” said Analy coach Brett Page.

The game began slow paced offensively, especially for the Cougars, who didn’t score until 5:34 was left in the first period. Mireri and Finch led the way, as Finch had his outside shot going.

“We still have some communication issues,” said Page.

Mireri was able to drive and score and eat up the inside of the Analy defense. Dom Tripodi got the Tigers started on offense with a pair of three pointers.

Mireri had nine second-quarter points as Albany built a lead. Jaime Banegas started it off with a shot from downtown. Then, Zack Binsfield returned from an illness to score a bucket from the corner. After that it was all Mireri. After making one of two at the charity stripe, he then made two three’s and a long two sandwiched in between to give Albany a 22-18 halftime lead.

Albany takes on Maria Carrillo Thursday at 3:00 pm at Windsor High School.

Analy will take on Dublin Thursday at 6:00 pm at Windsor High School.
