Healdsburg's undefeated run ends with loss to Amador Valley

December 29, 2016

WINDSOR, CA - Healdsburg saw its undefeated run come to an end Wednesday night against Amador Valley, falling 62-53 on the opening day of the Windsor Tournament.

Demetrius Williams started off red hot from the field for Amador Valley, as he netted eight points in the opening quarter. He also got some help from Tommy Kramer, who dropped in a three-ball. Landon Courtman kept it close for the Greyhounds with four points in the period as Healdsburg closed the gap to 19-15 after one quarter.

Amador Valley began to pull away as Williams had seven points in the second period, and Mitch Benson had four points of his own. Courtman tried to take matters into his own hands for the Hounds, but that backfired. Healdsburg’s costly turnovers led to a Dons 9-0 run to end the first half with them up 35-23.

Juan Aguilar tried to keep the Hounds in it as long as he could, as he went all out for Healdsburg in the third quarter. Aguilar had 10 points and he kept Healdsburg from getting blown out for its first loss. Even if the game were close, Williams could not be stopped, adding two long three-pointers in the period.

“Demetrius (Williams) had a tremendous game”, said Amador Valley coach Andy Sax. “We will need more of that to keep winning.”

Healdsburg tried to put up a fight, but this game wasn’t meant to be as the Dons defense caused many Hounds turnovers, cutting off any potential Healdsburg comeback. Aguilar kept them in the game, but the second quarter disaster, and the eventual deficit, was too much to overcome.

Healdsburg plays Nevada Union Thursday at 4:30 pm at Windsor High School

Amador Valley will take on host Windsor at 7:30 pm.
