Campolindo prevails in DAL-Foothill opener over Miramonte

January 14, 2017

MORAGA, CA - The Campolindo boys hoops squad prevailed over visiting Miramonte, 47-31, with a strong performance by senior Chris Wright, who scored 14 points and had five rebounds during the game.

“Chris is one of our strong players, he's gotten better in every game, he's bought into his role as one of our captains and he's one of our feature guys on offense.” said Campolindo head coach Steven Dyer.

Miramonte briefly led by one point after a three-pointer from junior Ethan Fischler halfway through the first quarter, but junior Will Cummins hit three three-point shots for the Cougars to extend their lead. Senior Jimmy Ricksen would hit a two-pointer for Miramonte as the clock ran out in the half to make the score 21-16 at the break.

The Matadors cut the lead to seven points with four minutes left in the third quarter, but Wright hit a layup, and junior John Torchio hit a three-pointer from half court to end the third quarter. From there, the Cougars would not be stopped. A great rebound and put-back by Wright would result in a nine point lead for the Cougars

“We did a really good job of following the defensive scouting report, doing a good job defending throughout the game, that was the most impressive thing” said Coach Dyer.

The Cougars would have a couple of quick runs to increase their lead to 15 points as freshman Hunter Clarke hit a three-pointer followed by a two-pointer from Wright. Wright also was aggressive in rebounding for the Cougars. Campolindo (11-5, 1-0) has now won four of its last games.

Miramonte was led by Fischler with 14 points and eight points by Ricksen.

Miramonte (10-5, 0-1) will now face Acalanes at home next Friday night, where they will attempt to improve on their season. Campolindo faces Northgate on the road next Friday night. The Cougars are struggling in away games, compiling a record of 1-3 on the road heading into next week's matchup.

“Our performance in road games will be one thing that we look to improve on heading into Northgate next Friday,” said Dyer. “It's going to be a tough game for us so the biggest thing is that we really need to bring our defense on the road also.”
