Runs pile up for Deer Valley in win over Mount

March 29, 2017

ANTIOCH, CA - On a windy Tuesday afternoon, Deer Valley stepped out on their field and showed just what they are capable of. With a final score of 32-0, they were merciless and clinical throughout the game.

Heading into the game, the Wolverines came into the game 4-5, beating South San Francisco 5-4 in their last outing, while Mount Diablo (0-2) is still in search of its first win in non league play.

Deer Valley didn’t have to wait long to open the scoring. Justin Tamelier, Tommy Munson, Jose Dominguez, and Nate Hermosillo all recorded RBI in the bottom of the first inning. .

“I think we did really well, we scored a lot of runs today,” said Munson.

The following inning proved to be no different than the first. Tamelier and Hermosillo both recorded two more RBI. Joseph Landon scored the first run of the inning, after stealing third base. He then walked in with his run after the bases were loaded and Jordan Perez was forced to walk to first base. The score after the second inning was 9-0.

The Wolverines were not only superb at batting but defensively were excellent. On the mount Landon struck out two batters in three innings while Hernandez kept the bases clean of any runners by playing well at first base.

“I stayed and watched the ball, I made contact with the ball, and it was a great day today," commented Hernandez. “I expect us to do really well [in the BVAL]."

The bottom of the third inning proved to be Deer Valley’s biggest. 11 runs were scored, with six of them being consecutive. Tamelier and Perez both gained another RBI while Landon got two and DeStefano led the pack with 3 RBI in the inning. That gave the Wolverines an overwhelming 20-run lead after three innings.

A pitching change for Mount Diablo in the fourth inning did little to change the outcome, as Evan Bittle, Michael Hord, Jeremiah Pino, Perez, and Hermosillo each got an RBI while Hernandez got two in the bottom of the fourth inning, leading to nine more runs crossing the plate in that frame.

“We hope to make NCS and have a great season in league,“ said Deer Valley coach Burt Roberts. “We showed what we are capable of doing today and I think we have a good chance this season to get into the NCS playoffs."
