Parsons stymies Trojans for Irvington victory

April 25, 2017

CASTRO VALLEY, CA - Quantity of games were limited in Monday's baseball action across the North Coast Section, but quality was high, especially at Castro Valley, where Irvington pulled off a 2-1 upset of the host Trojans.

Senior Jacob Parsons turned in a six-inning, four-hit performance for the Vikings (8-7), who took the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Cal Bridges then slammed the door in the seventh inning - after walking three straight batters to load the bases - to preserve the victory.

Castro Valley (10-7) actually struck first, on Cole Coffey's RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. Parsons got out of the threat, however, by picking Coffey off of second base, and then retiring the next two batters.

Irvington tied the game in the top of the fourth, when junior Wesley Warren singled to score Nick Wilson with one out. The Vikings then took the lead in the top of the fifth, on Bridges' two-out single to score Alonso Sainz.

Both teams return to league play on Wednesday. Irvington has two games against Newark Memorial this week, while Castro Valley has a pair against San Leandro.
