Petaluma rolls past El Molino

January 8, 2018

PETALUMA, CA - Petaluma recorded its second straight win Saturday night by defeating El Molino-Forestville, 68-34.

It was all Petaluma (8-7, 2-0 SCL) right from the start. Jack Anderson started off another big night, hitting a three to get the home student crowd going. Another three followed by a perfect trip to the line had Petaluma off to an 8-2 start. Petaluma turned it up on the defensive end, playing tight defense, and coming up with steals.

“Our defense was good, and we had a better rebounding night,” said Petaluma head coach Scott Behrs.

Brendan O’Neill benefited from one of those as he got to the rim with ease, and then followed it up with a mid range jumper. Thomas Siegert was the only offense for El Molino (3-11, 0-2), scoring all four points, as they trailed 19-4 after one period.

Petaluma, with the big lead, began emptying its bench. Cardinal Newman-SR transfer Kenny Alexander got his first minutes in front of the home crowd. He hit his first shot, a three, and then came up with a stop on the defensive end of the floor, and a rebound. He fed Robert Holmes inside as Petaluma built a 27-8 lead early in the second. Logan Wodsey tried to keep El Molino somewhat close, hitting a pair of three’s, but Petaluma built a 42-19 halftime lead as Teddy Critchett’s last second shot went in.

More players got in on the action for Petaluma as the game wore on. George Tynes came off the bench, and in his second defensive possession, came up with a huge block to bring the crowd back into it. After an offensive rebound, Tynes put one in, and then Anderson found himself on a breakaway dunk to complete his 17-point performance.

El Molino had some players show bright spots in the final period, as they did outscore Petaluma 12-11. Sam Wilson-Meitz had five points, and Aaron Daniels would get himself in the point column. Critchett would record another bucket for Petaluma. Zack Clark would record a perfect trip from the charity stripe.

“We know we have our biggest tests ahead of us, but we are excited to be 2-0 in league so far.” commented Behrs.

Petaluma will travel to Santa Rosa to take on Piner Tuesday night.

El Molino will travel to Elsie Allen-SR on Tuesday night.
