College Park holds off Campolindo

January 20, 2018

MORAGA, CA - College Park rebounded from its loss to Las Lomas with an impressive 62-55 road win against Campolindo. College Park had previously beaten the Cougars in the championship game of the Liberty Stonebarger Tournament.

“We needed to rebound from our loss last week” said College Park coach Craig Battle. “These guys were really focused and we came out strong.”

Zyon Pullin led the Falcons with 17 points.

“We just had to come out fighting and come out strong,” said Pullin.

The host Cougars started out strong with consecutive three-pointers from David Ahazie and Trevin Kroichick. After a timeout with 3:13 left, the Falcons (14-3, 1-1 DAL-Foothill) were able to catch up to Campolindo as Pullin and Blair Newman Jr. each scored a three pointer to close the lead to 18-16 after the first quarter.

Campolindo struggled in the second, as College Park was able to capitalize on three turnovers as Pullin scored on two layups, and Danny La Fortune hit a short two-pointer to take a 29-24 lead at the break.

Campolindo began to fight back in the third quarter as David Ahazie hit two field goals and John Torchio got a rebound and lay-up to cut the seven point deficit to a 32-31 lead with 4:33 left in the third. College Park responded with baskets from Michael Curtin and Ryan Taheri.

The Cougars continued to fight back in the final minutes of the game as Kroichick hit a three-pointer and Ahazie and Will Cummins each had a layup. Down 55-54 with 1:13 remaining however, the Falcons pulled away from host Campolindo as Pullin and La Fortune each hit a three-pointer to ice the victory.

Campolindo (13-5, 1-1 DAL-Foothill) was led by Ahazie with 21 points and Kroichick with 13 points.

On Tuesday, Campolindo hosts an undefeated Clayton Valley Charter team, while College Park hosts Acalanes.
