Branham takes strong victory over Los Altos

September 14, 2018

Being able to run the ball was key to Branham’s victory Friday night against Los Altos, and Branham's starting running back, Cameron Rynhard was able to use that key.

Rynhard knows how to get through tough pockets in a defense, and did so with Los Altos. Being only a junior, and standing at 5'7 and 195 lbs, he definitely showed his worth with a total of 211 rushing yards, and four touchdowns. He was able to be a significant help Branham’s 35-21 victory against Los Altos and defending their home turf, putting them at a 2-1 season so far.

The Bruins were able to get a strong lead early on in the game, with Rynhard scoring the first touchdown with 9 minutes still left in the first, putting the first numbers on the board. After a strong defensive end, Braham was able to hold Los Altos back from scoring. With less than two minutes to go in the first, Rynhard ran a short 4 yard touchdown, scoring the second Braham touchdown, putting the score at 14-0.

“I brought a good intensity, and I was there top pick up my teammates. I was sick all week and battling a cold through the game, but overall I think I played well.” Reflected Cameron Rynhard.

During the second Los Altos was able to score a couple touchdowns to put numbers on the board. Dale Sims scored their first with a short four yard run during the eight minuet, to put the score at 14-7. However it was countered by Rynhard scoring his third touchdown, giving the Bruins another 14 point lead. The Bruins offensive line was strong and showed it was capable of holding Los Altos rushers back, with Frank Poso leading the line. A 6”5, 320 lb junior, he showed his strength with 5 total tackles that held off numerous attempts by Los Altos.

“I brought the intensity, and I like to be a leader on the offensive line, and I give it 100% every play.” Said Frank Poso.

Near the end of the third, when the Bruins were up 21-14, Los Altos had a fumble on their own 30 and Rynhard took care of this slip up. He recovered the fumble and brought it in for a touchdown, putting the Bruins ahead 28-14. The Bruins were able to keep the momentum going, with Nick Bandanza scoring a running touchdown giving them a 35-14 lead. Los Altos was only able to score one more touchdown for the rest of the game.

The Bruins coach, Stephen Johnson has been leading Branham to a pretty good start of his first season coaching. Not only is their head coach new, but the team contains a majority of Juniors, giving them a much younger team. With this victory over Los Altos putting them at a 2-1 season, he is motivated that they can keep winning in the future.

“What’s good about having a young group of guys is that they are always emotional, and bring it every single time, every single snap all the time. We are able to get our young group of guys hyped up, and to come and deliver every single snap all four quarters.” Said coach Stephen Johnson.

Branham Bruins will travel to play Del mar on the road, two weeks from now. Meanwhile Los Altos will also play on the road against Hill Falcons next week.
