Harris, Nassirruddin lead explosive performance for Tennyson

October 13, 2018

HAYWARD - Host Tennyson stayed unbeaten in the WACC-Shoreline on Friday night, using an explosive ground game to roll past Mt. Eden, 61-27, leaving the Lancers in sole possession of first place in the division standings.

Senior running back Ja'kobe Harris and junior quarterback Mustafa Nassirruddin combined to run for 440 of Tennyson's 510 rushing yards in the win over the Monarchs, along with seven touchdowns combined on the ground. Harris carried the ball 14 times for 240 yards and four touchdowns, including an 82-yard burst, while Nassirruddin had a 76-yard touchdown run among his five carries for 200 yards and three scores. Quincy Bass added 13 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, while Jeremiah Goode also reached the end zone for the Lancers.

"We have a trio of explosive guys - Ja'kobe, Mustafa, and Quincy - that can score on any given play, and all of them are dangerous," said Tennyson coach Terry Smith. "If teams want to load up on Ja'kobe, then the other two will make them pay. If you don't load up on Ja'kobe, then he can take it the distance."

The five carries were part of an all-around strong performance for Nassirruddin, who also completed 5-of-10 passes for 98 yards and had an interception on defense. Defensively, junior Carlos Gonzalez and senior Richard Pangelina made themselves at home in the Mt. Eden backfield, each registering three tackles for a loss and a sack. As a team, the Lancers racked up 13 stops behind the line of scrimmage.

With the win, Tennyson improves to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in the WACC-Shoreline, while Mt. Eden falls to 2-6, 2-1 in division play.
