St. Ignatius on point in win against Lincoln

December 10, 2015

SAN FRANCSICO, CA -- It was raining threes inside McCullough Gymnasium as St. Ignatius College Prep downed Lincoln-San Francisco 60-45 in a non-league game.

Point guard Hanna Lee keyed a fast-paced 21-9 second quarter run for the Wildcats, punctuated by two 3-pointers by Wildcat sophomore Alyssa Downs. This started an unforgettable night of long-distance shooting for Downs that saw her go a perfect 7-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Lincoln led virtually the entire first quarter, highlighted by a 3-pointer, courtesy of Cassandra Tam. Coach Jason Lee of the Mustangs attributed their strong start to “a big hype going against a WCAL team,” adding that, “we’re supposed to be strong this year and we were ready to go.”

The Wildcats grabbed the lead in the last minute of the first quarter and never relinquished it. The Wildcats' Hanna Lee scored 11 first-quarter points, contributing to a 36-21 halftime lead.

The Mustangs played the Wildcats even in the second half but every time they made a run the Wildcats shut the door with a timely 3-pointer. Downs scored 25 points with seven threes, all off of assists from Maggie Burke. Asked about their chemistry, Downs said she and Burke were in a “groove” and appreciated her teammates looking to get her the ball. Emma Lucey also chipped in two threes from long range.

Wildcat Coach Mike Mulkerrins was pleased with his team’s effort after a slow start.

“We’ve been shooting the ball pretty well from behind the 3-point line and it really enables us to get to the basket," Mulkerrins said.
