Carondelet takes down San Ramon Valley

February 7, 2018

SAN RAMON, CA - Carondelet defeated San Ramon Valley, 58-47, on Tuesday night, handing the Wolves their second loss in three games.

The Cougars (16-7) dominated from start to finish, displaying why they are considered a competitive anomaly this season and do not count in the EBAL standings. Carondelet’s swarming defense caused the Wolves to give up countless turnovers, which helped lead to easy points for the Cougars.

Junior Ali Bamberger lit up the stat sheet, scoring 21 points, with help from Tatyana Modawar and Alex Brown, who combined for 16 points.

For the Wolves (19-4), Paige Gerhart and Lexie Romero had nice nights, but their 28 combined points were not enough to keep them in the game.

The Cougars started the game off with a bang and jumped out to a 10-0 lead within four minutes. Struggles from the field and turnovers saw the Wolves down 18-4 at the end of the first quarter, with Bamberger scoring 10.

“We beat ourselves from the tip,” said SRV assistant coach Joe Cristiano.

The Cougars extended their lead through the second quarter, with contributions from everybody on the floor. Carondelet led San Ramon Valley 32-15 at the half.

The Cougars continued to dominate in the third quarter. The Wolves made a late push in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t comeback from the 23-point deficit at the end of the third period.

“We were playing catch-up the rest of the game,” added Cristiano.

Carondelet High plays Amador Valley for their final home game on Friday.

San Ramon Valley hosts Dougherty Valley at home Friday night as the regular season winds down.
