Report: Former Serra star Riley shot to death while playing Pokemon Go

August 7, 2016

Former Serra High baseball star Calvin Riley, 20, was shot to death Saturday night in San Francisco while playing Pokemon Go, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Riley was shot in the chest before 10 p.m. near San Francisco’s Aquatic Park, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics did CPR.

Riley was an all-league utility player his senior year at Serra, going 3-1 on the mound with a 1.52 earned run average and managing 25 hits and 17 runs batted in with 12 runs scored. In the spring he would have entered his second year playing for San Joaquin Delta College.

“He was the guy you wanted to have the ball in his hand when it meant the most,” San Joaquin Delta coach Reed Peters told the Chronicle. “He was a tough kid – a battler."

Hunter Bishop played one year of baseball with Riley at Serra after Bishop transferred to the San Mateo school.

“Rest in peace to a great friend and a great human being,” Bishop tweeted. “You will be missed Cal!”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help put Calvin to rest.
