St. Ignatius grad Krook signs with San Francisco Giants

June 17, 2016

St. Ignatius grad Matt Krook of the University of Oregon has signed with the San Francisco Giants for $500,000, according to Jim Callis of mlb.com.

Krook is a left-hander who was a supplemental first-rounder in high school before having Tommy John surgery.

Said Callis: “lively FB, nasty curve.”

Krook was named a Louisville Slugger preseason third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, as well as a preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He missed the entire 2015 season with the Tommy John surgery.

In 2014 Krook was named a Louisville Slugger first-team freshman All-America after finishing an injury-shortened season with a 2-1 record and 1.79 earned run average while striking gout 60 in 45.1 innings.

Krook was named first-team All-American as a senior in high school and first-team all-region by Perfect Game, as well as being a first-team All-WCAL pick. He went 2-1 as a senior with 1.65 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 59.1 innings, while batting .394 with three home runs, 27 RBIs, 13 doubles and four triples.
