Los Gatos pounded out 12 hits on Thursday against Serra, supporting a strong effort on the mound from Tommy Splaine, as the Wildcats took care of the Padres, 10-2.
Leadoff man Tommy Troy reached base in all five of his at-bats, including a single to start the game, scoring in the top of the first on Splaine's sacrifice fly to center field, after Troy stole both second and third base. Los Gatos added to the lead with three runs in the top of the second when back-to-back walks started a rally. Teague Drotar then singled to score Aiden Schenkel and Michael Splaine scored on a fielder's choice to make it 3-0. Kai Hori then followed with a one-out single to right, scoring Drotar.
Serra cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second, on a two-run, two-out double from Michael Sarhatt, but Hori homered in the top of the fourth to re-ignite the Wildcats' offense and Los Gatos added another pair in the top of the sixth on Troy's RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Logan Johnstone after Troy stole third. A trio of bases loaded walks during the top of the seventh accounted for the final runs of the game.
Troy finished the game 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Johnstone was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Hori drove in three runs. Tommy Splaine went six and one-third innings on the mound, striking out three and scattering seven hits. Junior Pablo Ossio led the Serra offense with a three-hit day.
