Cupertino maintained its hold atop the SCVAL-El Camino Division with a 39-14 win at Monta Vista Friday night.
With the victory, the Pioneers (7-2, 5-0 SCVAL-EC) remained undefeated in the SCVAL-EC heading into their showdown with Santa Clara (6-3, 4-1) Friday night in Cupertino for the league title. Junior Diego Zamora led the way in the win over Monta Vista with a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown. Senior Alex Bruckhaus ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, as the Pioneers racked up 370 yards on the ground.
The Cupertino defense forced four turnovers in the victory, and got big games from senior Dylan Thiel, who had 13 tackles, and junior Alex Law, who had six tackles and three tackles for a loss.
Monta Vista (4-5, 2-3) finishes its season Friday night at home against Fremont (5-4, 3-2).
