Augusta used a four-run fourth inning and great situational pitching to beat Fort Scott 9-1 and advance to the class 4A Division I state championship game later today at 2pm.
The game was a 1-1 tie until the bottom of the third inning when Augusta’s Kylie Westbrooks led off with a solo home run.
The Orioles then scored one unearned run in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Westbrooks, a junior, was 3-for-4 at the plate while senior Katy Nordman finished the game 2-for-4.
Augusta pitchers Brooke Eberhart and Nicole Becker combined to hold Fort Scott to only two hits for the game.
Augusta moves on to face the winner of McPherson vs. Louisburg in the state championship game while Fort Scott will play for third place against the loser of McPherson vs. Louisburg at 1 pm.
