Mike Smith is the new baseball coach at St. Francis, replacing Mike Oakland who is now the school’s softball coach.
St. Francis is the two-time defending CCS Open champ.
Smith has been an assistant at St. Francis for the last eight years. He is a 1994 Palo Alto High grad who got his undergraduate college degree from San Diego State. He also has a Masters from San Jose State.
Smith has been a teacher at Fremont-Sunnyvale High for the past 15 years and was formerly the baseball coach and athletic director at Fremont.
During Smith’s time at St. Francis, the Lancers have won six league titles and three section titles. He will continue to teach at Fremont.
"Saint Francis is very excited to name Mike Smith as the new head varsity baseball coach here at Saint Francis High School,” said
Director of Athletics Michael Pilawski via release. “Coach Smith has been a key member of the staff here for the past eight years and is a great teacher of the game as well as a tremendous role model for our student-athletes. He is excited to continue the great success that our program has had and we look forward to his leadership."
Smith is excited to begin his new adventure.
“I am so thankful and grateful for this opportunity,” Smith said via release. “I have learned so much under coach Oakland and have the utmost respect for him. I look forward to continuing the great success both on and off the field with our student-athletes.”
