Miramonte quarterback Tim Tague and Clayton Valley Charter defensive lineman Koti Vaisima garnered top honors for the Diablo Athletic League's Valley Division, for the 2016 football season.
Tague was named the league's Offensive MVP after leading the Matadors to a 9-3 overall record and a quarterfinal berth in the Division 3 playoffs, falling by two points to eventual finalist Marin Catholic. For the season, Tague completed 62 percent of his passes for 3,085 yards and 43 touchdowns. The senior multi-sport athlete threw for five touchdowns on four different occasions, and had a season-high 345 yards in a win over Las Lomas.
The 2016 season capped a phenomenal career for Tague, who finished his time at Miramonte with just under 7,000 yards passing and 83 touchdowns through the air.
Vaisima was named the league's Defensive MVP as the leader of a dominant Clayton Valley defense, one which never allowed more than 15 points during league play. Despite being double-teamed and avoided for most of the season, Vaisima still managed to rack up 7.5 sacks and nine tackles for a loss, finishing a three-year varsity career in which he had 292 total tackles, 21.5 sacks, and 34 tackles for a loss.
As a result of Vaisima's play, the Ugly Eagle defense helped propel Clayton Valley to another unbeaten season in league play, its fifth straight league title.
