A handful of local Northern California graduates led San Francisco State to a huge weekend sweep of Stanislaus State and nationally-ranked Chico State, in CCAA boys basketball action.
Nick Calcaterra (Marin Catholic) led the Gators with 17 points and three steals in a big 77-72 overtime win against Stanislaus on Friday night, a win also highlighted by the strong play of Israel Hakim (Palo Alto) late in the game, as he scored four of his 11 points down the stretch in regulation to send the game to overtime, while also adding two steals. Jash Kahlon (Brookside Christian) rounded out the top scorers in the game, with 13 points.
Hakim had another big game on Saturday night, as SF State avenged an earlier loss to Chico State, knocking off the 20th-ranked Wildcats, 65-51. Hakim had 13 points in that game, while Chiefy Ugbaja (Riordan) had 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Calcaterra contributed nine points and four rebounds. Kahlon added five more points in the win.
For the season, SF State is now 18-3, 11-3 in the CCAA, trailing UC San Diego by a half-game in the standings.
