College Park's Quentin Grimes commits to Kansas

November 16, 2017

College Park basketball player and five-star guard Quentin Grimes committed to the University of Kansas on Wednesday evening. Grimes, surrounded by his closest friends and family in the gym at College Park, signed his National Letter of Intent and will further his basketball career at the next level as a Jayhawk.

"We feel Quentin Grimes is as good as guard as there is in high school basketball," Kansas Head Coach Bill Self said via the Kansas Athletics official website. "He's got great size. He's got point guard vision. He can really handle the ball. He reminds me of a guy that I coached at Illinois, Deron Williams, but probably a better scorer than Deron at this stage."

The 6-foot-5 College Park senior is ranked No. 13 on ESPN's Top 100 recruits list. Grimes gave Kansas a boost to the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports, as he becomes the fourth signee in the Jayhawks' 2018 recruiting class.

"We are very excited about this class," Self said. "The four we've signed are high IQ basketball guys that understand how to play with other good players."

Throughout his time in high school, Grimes has steadily improved as each year went on. He averaged 16.6 points his sophomore year and 28.1 points in his junior year. Thus far, through two games, his senior year looks to be even better. Grimes tallied 31 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in College Park's season opener. Most recently, Grimes put on a scoring clinic with 32 points in the Cavs' 72-40 win over College Station.

"We think Quentin will be an impact guy for us and be one of the premier guards in the country early in his career," Self said. "We've seen him play a lot, not only through his AAU program but also with his high school team. He's one of the more complete players that we will have recruited in our time here. I anticipate the transition from high school to college pretty seamless for him."

Grimes was listed as one of Texas' top rising athletes by Prep2Prep just a few short months ago (http://www.prep2prep.com/feature.aspx?ArticleID=18996). Now that his commitment is out of the way, Grimes can focus solely on leading the Cavaliers to a state championship, something he has yet to do. Watch out for Grimes and College Park as they look to take home a District 12-6A title within the coming months.
