The TCAL-Rock Defensive Player of the Year, Delano Ware from El Cerrito, announced his commitment to the University of Illinois this weekend.
Ware cited the Illini's commitment to him throughout the recruiting process as a primary factor in his decision making.
"The University of Illinois has shown me much love, and I can see myself making big-time plays there," Ware said. "Starting from this new foundation, my teammates and I are only going to get better. I definitely see championships in our future."
This past season, Ware led the Gauchos to their second straight league title. Now, he joins former St. Francis-Mountain View standout Bennett Williams as Bay Area products being counted on to solidify coach Lovie Smith's defense, as he heads into his second year at the helm of the program. Williams was named to the ESPN True Freshmen All-America First-Team on Monday, and he has already expressed his confidence in having Ware join him in the secondary.
"(Ware) is another under-recruited stud out of the Bay Area," Williams commented. "He's going to be a force with us for the next few years."
