Despite trailing through each of the first three quarters, Miramonte (8-4) got 10 of Jayson Fernbacher’s 20 points in the fourth quarter to stun the Serra Padres in the second round of the 2018 Bambauer Classic, including the go-ahead layup with 38 seconds left. Matt Meredith hit a three to put the Matadors ahead 59-56 before Serra (6-2) tied it on Patrick Simon’s second 3-pointer of the fourth quarter.
Mills 50, Urban 47
Unlike their December 15 meeting, the Mills Vikings didn’t need two overtimes to take down the Urban Blues, with Colby Vasquez scoring 21 points, including the go-ahead basket midway through the fourth. Urban (4-9) had tied it at 43 on back-to-back baskets by Indy Albani-Bombard, who scored a team-high 14 off the bench, before Vasquez put Mills (5-5) back in front and Adrian Tran scored his only points of the game on an and-1. The Vikings got 11 rebounds for Vasquez and 13 points from Aaron Chen. Quinn Bura hit three second-half 3-pointers, while sophomore Bryce Smith added 12 for the Blues.
University 72, Lincoln 59
A 21-10 third quarter spurred the Red Devils to victory in another consolation bracket game at the 2018 Bambauer Classic. Charley Moore led University (8-5) with 27 points, while Max Fried made 12 of 15 free throws and finished with 20 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, five steals and four blocks. The Red Devils will face Arroyo Grande at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, while Lincoln (6-7) will play in the 9:30 a.m. game against Terra Linda. The Mustangs got 19 points from freshman point guard Jordan Aquino and 15 from Gage Cross, who transferred from Riordan before his senior season.
Marin Catholic 62, Huntington Park 43
The Wildcats used a 16-10 second quarter to win a consolation bracket game against the visitors from Los Angeles and set up a Friday afternoon battle with Mills in the 2 p.m. game.
