Mayorga signs with Hutchinson Community College

March 3, 2014

“Dream come true,” was the phrase used by Thomas More Prep's (TMP) Ryan Mayorga when he signed his letter of intent to play football with Hutchinson Community College on Feb. 12.

A member of the Hutchinson coaching staff approached Mayorga on Sept. 27, after a close loss against Ellsworth, and Mayorga never looked back.

Eventually, after his recruiting process finally ended, Mayorga signed with the Blue Dragons to play wide receiver.

“Just being able to accomplish my goal in life and play football at the next level means a lot,” Mayorga said about playing at the next level.

Hutchinson has built a successful program, finishing 8-4 last season, but for Mayorga, the football program was not the only factor in deciding where to attend college.

“I like the school,” Mayorga said. “When I went there it felt like a home away from home, along with having a good football program.”

Ryan has been a major asset to the Thomas More Prep Monarchs, especially at the wide receiver position.

“Ryan definitely helped us stretch the field and was a threat that defenses had to prepare for on a weekly basis,” TMP head football coach John Montgomery said. “I feel Ryan is yet to reach his full potential. He is yet to reach his full strength and size.”

The Monarchs have only had one other player sign in the two years that Montgomery has been TMP’s head coach.

The other signee is Anthony Walters, who signed with Ottawa University at the end of the 2012 season. Mayorga's signing is a step in the right direction for the Monarchs, as they continue to grow and build in future seasons.

“It’s exciting to watch someone’s dream come true,” Montgomery said. “I couldn’t be happier or more proud of him.”

The feelings of pride and happiness were shared by all who attended the signing ceremony, including Mayorga’s family, friends, coaches, and teammates, who supported him throughout his high school career, and look forward to his future college days with the Blue Dragons.
