Little over a year ago I moved from Redlands to San Jose to work for Prep2Prep.
Told my esteemed boss Danny Kadah - the man who founded Prep2Prep - the best thing about comin' back is seeing people in Giants' caps again. Oh yeah.
This weekend I finally unpacked the last of my boxes. Here's what I found.
--A 1965 L.A. Dodgers yearbook. Don't know why I have it, but the Dodgers won it all that year behind Sandy Koufax, whose mother lived in Aptos.
--Team photo of my 2009 Redlands "Celtics" basketball team. Had one girl on squad -- Madison Ybarra -- who did the impossible, made me look like a smart coach.
--A 1967 San Francisco Warriors' program with Clyde Lee on cover. Yes, I'm old.
--A Giants' pennant from 1987 ... team that included Mike Krukow, Kevin Mitchell, "Hac-Man" Leonard and manager Roger Craig. Hummm Baby!
--Ticket stub from Springsteen concert Sept. 27, 1985 at the L.A. Coliseum. Bruuucce!
--Coveted orange press pass to Candlestick Park from my Watsonville Register-Pajaronian days. Priceless.
--Ticket stub from 1987 AC-DC concert. Shook me all night!
--Game worn No. 80 49ers' jersey ... but from Eason Ramson, not Jerry Rice. Dang.
--Framed poster from pro wrestling at San Jose Civic featuring Ray Stevens, Pepper Gomez, "Man Mountain" Mike, Kinji Shibuya, Mr. Saito and Dr. Bill Miller. Legends all! The rules: "No stopping for blood. No disqualification. No time limit."
--Two-foot plank from Kezar Stadium stands rescued before remodel. Go Niners!
--Program from 1968 Serra vs. Bellarmine football game at Buck Shaw. Go Pads. Go Bells.
--Ancient poster, hyping Santa Clara University football at Seals Stadium. Tickets: $1.
--A photo of my mom, who I call Cathy99, because she turns 100 November 14. "Go Cathy99!"
Whither Kezar?: We've mentioned it before, but in case you haven't heard there will be no prep football in 2014 at Kezar Stadium. The old gal is being refurbished. Sacred Heart Cathedral, which usually plays its home games at Kezar, is playing at Terra Nova High in Pacific this season. The Bruce-Mahoney game is at 1 p.m. September 25 at S.I.
Battle new St. Mary's College-Albany coach: St. Mary’s College High-Albany has found a winner for its boys basketball job.
The Panthers have hired Craig Battle from College Park as their new coach, according to the St. Mary’s College High-Albany web site.
Battle was not immediately available for comment.
The veteran coach led College Park to its first CIF-State NorCal title this past season as it won the Division-II title despite being a No. 12 seed, defeating Dublin 93-90.
Jordan Ford joins Oakland Soldiers
Folsom High star basketball player Jordan Ford has joined the Oakland Soldiers AAU team, said team official Melissa LaCorte.
That’s a major coup for the Soliders, who were in need of a guard.
“He’s a great guard,” LaCorte said. “He’ll balance out the team."
