Damari Milstead of Moreau Catholic-Hayward is a 6-2 combo guard that averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game for a 23-7 Mariners team that was the runner-up in the CIF North Coast Section Division III playoffs.
The Mariners were then upset in the first round of the Northern Regional Open Division playoffs. He is generally regarded as the top-rated junior at any position in Northern California.
The top point guard in Northern California and No. 2 in the state as rated by Prep2Prep All-Star Classic selection committee member Ronnie Flores of Cal-Hi Sports and GrassrootsHoops, is looking to be the one that leads the NorCal team to victory.
"I'm excited to have been invited to play in a game and be part of the best of the south and the north. The atmosphere should be crazy and there's going to be a lot of people there," Milstead told Prep2Prep correspondent Ryan Silapan.
"The team from the south is very competitive but I think its going to be a good game," Milstead continued. "We have to prove we're the best so I'm coming in with a mindset to lead the way.
Milstead is the most highly-recruited player on the NorCal 2017 team but is yet to start narrowing his choices, although he told Silapan he might begin taking some unofficial visits soon. He also revealed Southern California and Nevada have now offered him and can be added to the list of Cal, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, Montana, New Mexico State, Oregon State, Stanford, Texas A&M and Washington State.
As for what Milstead is looking forward to in his junior year at Moreau Catholic: "Now that I'm a junior I need a be more accountable and more of a leader and help lead us to our goal of a state championship."
