Boys California Live ‘2024 event during NCAA Live Period

February 7, 2024

BABCA (Bay Area Basketball Coaches Association) formally announces Boys California Live ’24 to be held from June 28-30, 2023, in the Sacramento metro area city of Roseville

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – It was made official on Tuesday in a Press Release circulated statewide to all major media outlets, that BABCA (Bay Area Basketball Coaches Association, with the approval and support of both the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), announced it will be hosting Boys California Live ‘24.

The event is in its second year, but first in Northern California, and takes place June 28-30, 2024. Boys California Live ‘24 will be contested during the NCAA-Sanctioned Scholastic Live Viewing Period for NCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches, and will provide a platform for high school student-athletes to demonstrate their talent in front of these coaches in a scholastic setting playing with their high school teams.

Boys California Live ‘24 will be held in the Sacramento metro area city of Roseville at the state-of-the-art 12-court Roebbelen Center, and will be managed by BABCA, just like the highly successful Girls California Live 23 event also held at the Roebbelen Center.

The event management team will be headed by BABCA Co-Founder and president, and University-San Francisco boys head coach Randal Bessolo, along with BABCA Co-Founder and Secretary, and Miramonte-Orinda head coach Chris Lavdiotis, as well as BABCA Treasurer and St. Ignatius-San Francisco head coach Jason Greenfield.

A team with over 50-years of combined proven success at directing major basketball tournaments headed by BABCA members Harold Abend and Gerry Freitas has been retained by BABCA to assist in managing the day-to-day affairs of the event and as tournament directors of Boys California Live 24.

“BABCA is thrilled to be selected by the CIF to host BoysCaliLive24,” said Bessolo. “BABCA is committed to serving our coaches and players and the event will be a unique opportunity for the best high school teams in California to compete against each other in front of college coaches.”

“Our experience successfully running Girls Cali Live23 at the Roebbelen center last year has given BABCA the experience to deliver a first class event for California high schools, players, college coaches and fans,” Bessolo continued.

The opportunity to provide a NCAA-sanctioned live platform in a scholastic setting has been in place since the summer of 2019, but the CIF chose not to participate until last year when girls were included.

With the girls event BABCA managed last year now switching to Southern California based on the desire of the CIF to rotate the events, Boys California Live 24 will be the first time that an event of this type will be sanctioned and hosted in Northern California.

Something unique to Boys California Live 24 that proved extremely successful for the girls event last year will be the formation of a Coaches Advisory Council. The plan is to have a combination of coaches from every geographical area in California represented to voice their needs and concerns relative to the elements involved in the tournament.

According to Bessolo, the Coaches Advisory Council already has several members committed and is actively bringing more coaches on board.

The event is limited to high school teams from California that are full CIF members, and select schools from contiguous states, and is intended to showcase teams with a Division I college prospect, but also lower level prospects as we expect college coaches from those levels to attend as well. There is an application process for CIF teams and select teams from the contiguous states to be selected for this prestigious event.

High school coaches can access the application with this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAWZ0BigbEI87QzXzlY8v2IPqQH5s0mpMTk6KHIx3__4DVvA/viewform or via the Boys California Live 24 drop down on the BABCA website https://www.babca.org/general-8

Just like Girls California Live 23 the Boys California Live 24 event will have Placer Valley Tourism as its major sponsor.
