After a pair of relatively comfortable wins in the CCS Division 2 playoffs, seventh-seeded The King’s Academy needed a two-run single from Sean DeBoard to finish off a 4-2 come-from-behind win against Leigh for the championship Friday night at Excite Ballpark. Toby Trotter went the distance for the Knights, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs with eight strikeouts. Leigh scored both of its runs in the first inning on a two-run double by junior Lance Takamura.
TKA continues its season Tuesday at home against Justin-Siena in the NorCal Division 3 playoffs. The Knights began their playoff run with a 16-4 win over St. Francis SCP. Shane Sentaga led a 14-hit attack with two doubles, a HR and 4 RBIs. In an 8-3 win over Palo Alto in the semifinals, The King’s Academy scored five runs in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie. Ethan Johnson went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and 3 RBIs.
Leigh reached the title game with a 5-3 win over Menlo-Atherton and a 4-3 victory over BVAL-Mount Hamilton rival Westmont. In the win over Westmont, the Longhorns rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Once again, Takamura was one of the hitting stars, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and junior Michael Mogannam went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
