For the third week in a row, St. Ignatius exploded for 42 points to edge Acalanes 42-38 and complete a perfect 3-0 non-league season. Sophomore quarterback Isaac Liu completed 18-of-29 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns as the Wildcats rallied for the victory with 21 fourth-quarter points.
Liu has thrown for 694 yards and 10 touchdowns already this season, and juniors Hawkes Packard (339 yards) and Davion Moffett (203 yards) have caught four touchdown passes apiece.
The Wildcats, who opened the season with 42-7 wins over San Marin and Marin Catholic, are off next week before opening the WCAL season against rival Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Bruce-Mahoney game on September 25.
In other WCAL action, Bellarmine remained unbeaten with a 38-18 win over Palo Alto. Justin Donahue keyed a 254-yard rushing attack with a team-high 95 yards on the ground.
While the Bells have not played against the level of competition of some of their league mates, the 3-0 start is a welcome sight for a rebuilding program that finished 2-8 in 2025 and 0-10 in 2024 and hasn’t won a WCAL game since a 23-13 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral October 27, 2023. Bellarmine is off next week and will try to break a 15-game WCAL losing streak when Serra comes to town September 25.
Mitty improved to 2-1 with a 25-24 win over Menlo-Atherton. Trailing 24-16 after three periods, the Monarchs rallied for the win in the fourth quarter against the Bears, who are still looking for their first win of the season. Senior Alex Hopwood completed just four passes, but two went for touchdowns. He also ran for 64 yards and a score for Mitty, which opens the league season September 25 at Valley Christian.
The Warriors prepared for the league season with a 47-0 win over Salinas. Junior Rome Leota-Pritchard led an efficient attack with 209 yards passing and two touchdowns on 19-of-25 attempts and senior Munachi Ellis ran for 56 yards and two scores. Senior Riley McElvane caught five passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Riordan and Saint Francis, which will meet on September 25 on the WCAL opening weekend, each fell to 1-2 with losses to high-powered out-of-section teams. Riordan fell 31-0 at Cardinal Newman, while Saint Francis was blasted 54-10 by De La Salle.
In other scores, Serra beat St. Mary’s-Stockton 21-7 and Sacred Heart Cathedral fell 49-24 to NorCal power Folsom.
