Senior Declan Meehan completed 8-of-10 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 117 yards and a score to lead visiting Willow Glen to a 41-18 win over Piedmont Hills Thursday night. With the win, the Rams improved to 4-0 while the Pirates fell to 0-4.
Lincoln joined Willow Glen as the only undefeated teams in the entire BVAL with a 31-21 win at Branham. Junior Luca Papoulias hit on 13-of-26 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 106 yards and two scores. All three of his touchdown passes went to senior Michael Whitelaw, who caught eight passes for 121 yards. The Lions built a 25-7 lead before a furious rally by the Bruins (0-4) made it close.
In other action from the BVAL-MH South, Ann Sobrato had little trouble with Pioneer, defeating the Mustangs 34-0 on the road to improve to 2-2 overall. Christopher also improved to 2-2 with a 35-0 non-league win at Leigh. Live Oak and Silver Creek are also 2-2 after narrow defeats in week 4. The Acorns lost in double overtime, 34-31, at Santa Teresa, and the Raiders were shut out 12-0 at Leland.
Santa Teresa continued its strong start with a pair of 100-yard rushers in the win over Live Oak. Junior Justin Svoboda Jr. ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns and senior Gage Jones added 103 yards and a score for the Saints, who conclude non-league play with a difficult trip to Lincoln next weekend.
The Leland defense held Silver Creek to just 221 total yards to record the shutout. Senior Jordan Visperas led the way with eight tackles and a sack, and junior quarterback Ian Qi accounted for the scoring with a pair of touchdown passes to senior Cole Canter.
In the BVAL-Santa Teresa, Westmont (3-1) celebrated its Homecoming with a massive fourth-quarter rally to pull out a 28-24 win over Independence. Trailing 24-6 heading into the final period, the Warriors outscored the Sixers 22-0 to complete the comeback. Junior Lucas Soliz threw a pair of touchdown passes to junior Liam Keyser, while sophomore Jaxon Antolin led the running game with 156 yards and a score.
Gilroy also concluded its non-league schedule at 3-1 with a 49-0 victory over Evergreen Valley. Senior Christian Lacroix completed 10-of-13 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns, and junior Omari Neville caught three passes for 94 yards, all for touchdowns.
In other BVAL-ST action, Oak Grove hammered Mt. Pleasant 29-0, and Gunderson got by Yerba Buena, 35-20.
In the BVAL-West Valley, Andrew Hill and Prospect posted impressive wins over BVAL-ST opposition. The Falcons stunned Del Mar, 59-20 to improve to 3-1 overall, and Prospect improved to 2-1 with a 30-22 win at Overfelt.
