BVAL Report: South goes 4-2 against North in final prep for league play

September 28, 2026

Willow Glen improved to 5-0 and completed a perfect non-league schedule with a 28-13 win over Leigh to headline a week 5 that featured all six BVAL-South teams in action against BVAL-North competition. The South emerged victorious in four of the six games. The Rams have now won three in a row against BVAL-North competition; they are off this week and open BVAL-South play October 8 at Silver Creek.

The Raiders (2-3) were one of the two BVAL-South teams that fell last weekend, losing 14-0 at home against Pioneer. The Mustangs (2-3) got first-half rushing touchdowns from Christopher Orozco and Lemani Roberts, and rode a strong defense that allowed just 225 total yards and intercepted three passes.

Santa Teresa (4-1) was the other BVAL-North winner, knocking off Lincoln 41-21. Trey Monroe had another big game for the Saints, running for 203 yards and three touchdowns.

Live Oak scored 41 first-half points en route to a 54-15 win over Branham. Senior Gage Jones led the way with 135 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries, and senior Praise God Ofobuike caught four passes for 115 yards and a score for the Acorns, who improved to 3-2. The Bruins, who fell to 0-5, were led by junior QB Andrew Ho (16-of-26 passing, 273 yards, 2 TDs).

In other scores, Christopher (3-2) hammered Piedmont Hills 44-0 to keep the Pirates winless, and Ann Sobrato knocked off Leland 21-7. Both teams are now 3-2.

The entire BVAL-MH is on a bye this week with league play starting next week. In the North, Leigh takes on Pioneer, Branham faces Piedmont Hills, and Leland meets Santa Teresa, while in the South, Willow Glen visits Silver Creek, Lincoln hosts Live Oak, and Sobrato welcomes Christopher.

BVAL-Santa Teresa Division play got underway with a series of blowouts. Senior Eric Plascencia threw two touchdown passes to lead Overfelt to its first win of the season, 28-7, over Del Mar. The Royals host Gunderson Friday night, and Del Mar visits Gilroy on Thursday.

Gilroy opened league play with a 35-14 win at San Jose. Senior Christian Lacroix completed 13-of-17 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns, and junior Mitchell Friebel caught five passes for 75 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs (1-4), who are off this week, were led by junior Agustine Cortes, who caught five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.

In the other BVAL-ST game, Oak Grove blasted Gunderson 39-0. The Eagles host Westmont, which was off this past weekend.

The BVAL-West Valley also got underway with Independence and Andrew Hill staking their early claims for the league title. Both teams improved to 4-1 overall as the Sixers built a 28-point halftime lead and cruised past Mt. Pleasant 31-7, while the Falcons rolled over Evergreen Valley 44-6.

This week, Independence visits Yerba Buena, which fell 32-26 to Prospect; Evergreen Valley hosts Prospect, and James Lick hosts Mt. Pleasant.
