Spots filling up for Eastside tournament

April 4, 2016

Eastside College Prep has openings for its Eastside Prep Coaches vs. Cancer Classic December 28-30.

There is a three-game guarantee and a $400 entry fee.

The tournament will include one Elite Division and two Competitive Divisions (all eight-team brackets).

Eastside College Prep, fresh off its state title, has already attracted St. Anthony from Long Island, as well as Northern California powers Archbishop Mitty and Berkeley for the Elite. Two top SoCal teams are also said to be interested.

A team from Canada has also committed to play.

Blythe is originally from Jamaica, but moved to Chicago as a 14-year-old. He played at Wisconsin-Parkside on a basketball scholarship and earned a BA in Business Management.

After graduation, he moved with his wife Marguerite to the Bay Area to run a group home for boys as a full-time, live-in counselor. He also ran his own basketball camps and leagues, including the popular NIKE Spring Basketball League for boys that included a promising East Bay player, Jason Kidd.

Blythe’s career has continued to blossom, highlighted by his ascension to girls basketball coach at Eastside College Prep, numerous area and region coach of the year awards and this year’s state title. His end of year tournament is part of his legacy. More information: kevin@blythesbasketball.com.
