Prep2Prep CCS Girls Soccer Playoff Brackets
UPDATE 3/1/2015
The first round of the CCS girls soccer playoffs was marked by blowouts as seven of the 15 matches were decided by three goals or more. But that's not to say there
were not some thrillers in the opening round. Although no games went to penalty kicks - contrasted with the boys, which had two games decided in the shootout - three
matches went into overtime, including a surprisingly tough first-round match for No. 5 Woodside in Division II. The Wildcats, who have lost just one match all season,
needed a goal in overtime to escape with a 1-0 victory over Pioneer to advance to the quarterfinals.
DIVISION I:
Of the three divisions, Division I featured the most one-sided games, as all the matches were decided by at least two goals, though that does include Salinas
knocking off Fremont 3-1 in overtime.

MOUNTAIN VIEW (0-0-0)
vs.
9
SANTA CLARA (0-0-0)
Saturday 10:00 AM, Milpitas High School
Junior Shaelan Murison continued her outstanding season with a pair of goals as No. 9 Santa Clara had no trouble with No. 8
Silver Creek, 4-0. Senior Jenna Murphy and junior Jessica Brazil also scored for the Bruins, who now face the top-seeded Spartans,
winners of the SCVAL-De Anza Division. Mountain View barely avoided placement in the tougher Division II, winding up as the lowest enrollment
school in Division I.
4
SALINAS (0-0-0)
vs.
5
CARLMONT (0-0-0)
Saturday 2:00 PM, Pioneer High School
Salinas rallied for a 3-1 overtime win over stubborn No. 13 seed Fremont in the first round. After falling behind 1-0 in the second
half, Taylor Burbank got the Cowboys even with a goal in the 52nd minute and then added the clincher in the second overtime. Melissa
Chin scored the game-winner in the first overtime.
Carlmont defeated San Benito by that same 3-1 score, but it wasn't nearly as dramatic as the Scots never trailed and didn't need
overtime. Soha Said scored two goals and Kayla Fong added one for Carlmont, which is on a 10-match unbeaten streak since starting
the season 3-7-1.
2
PALO ALTO (0-0-0)
vs.
7
MENLO-ATHERTON (0-0-0)
Saturday 12:00 PM, Palo Alto High School
Paly winds up with a home game in the quarterfinals despite settling for second place in the SCVAL-DA. The Bears are coming off
a 4-0 win over Alisal in the first round which featured a hat trick from sophomore Katie Guenin.
3
MILPITAS (0-0-0)
vs.
6
SANTA TERESA (0-0-0)
Saturday 12:00 PM, Milpitas High School
Stanford-bound star Tegan McGrady struck for a goal and an assist as Santa Teresa earned a shot at No. 3 Milpitas with a 3-0 win over Gunn. Freshman Natalia Nava and
sophomore Miranda Moses also scored for the Saints, who broke out for three second-half goals. Despite being undefeated and the home team in this one, the Trojans are probably
considered the underdogs considering the presence of McGrady and Santa Teresa's playoff experience.
DIVISION II:
There were no real surprises in the first round in Division II as the only lower seed to advance was No. 10 Valley Christian, but it's never a surprise when a WCAL
team wins a playoff game. BVAL-Santa Teresa Division champ needed overtime to knock off Branham and Woodside was pushed to the limit by Pioneer in a 1-0 overtime win.

ST. FRANCIS (0-0-0)
vs.
8
PRESENTATION (0-0-0)
Saturday 10:00 AM, St. Francis High School
One of two all-WCAL quarterfinal matchups features Presentation, which got a second-half goal and an assist from Gabbie Sanfilippo to oust
Leland, 2-0. The Panthers lost twice to St. Francis, but both contests were decided by one goal. St. Francis lost just one match all season,
a 2-1 defeat at Mitty on the final day of the regular season.
4
LEIGH (0-0-0)
vs.
5
WOODSIDE (0-0-0)
Saturday 2:00 PM, Milpitas High School
The fourth-seeded Longhorns scored early and often in a 6-0 first-round rout of visiting Soledad. Leigh scored four goals in the first half,
as six different players scored against the Aztecs. Woodside needed an overtime penalty kick from junior superstar Jillienne Aguilera to dispatch
a very tough Pioneer squad. Aguilera has amassed a whopping 28 goals and 11 assists in leading the Wildcats to a 17-1-2 mark, with the only
loss coming against St. Francis.
2
ARCHBISHOP MITTY (0-0-0)
vs.
10
VALLEY CHRISTIAN (0-0-0)
Saturday 2:00 PM, Valley Christian High School
Bracket purists may not understand how the No. 10 seed gets the home game against the No. 2 seed, but that is the way the CCS playoffs work
with the neutral sites set on a volunteer basis prior to the tournament. Valley Christian, which edged Burlingame, 1-0, in the first round,
lost its two matchups against the top-ranked Monarchs by a combined score of 8-2.
3
APTOS (0-0-0)
vs.
6
SOBRATO (0-0-0)
Saturday 10:00 PM, Valley Christian High School
An overtime goal by Leslie Cisneros vaulted Aptos over Branham, 3-2, in overtime to thwart what would have been a rematch of last year's
Branham-Aptos quarterfinal. It was the second goal of the game for Cisneros, who tied the match with a free kick in the 52nd minute. Earlier,
Kayla Morales had given the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead before the Bruins rallied to take a 2-1 lead by halftime on goals by Seneca Lent and Brittney Vela.
Aptos has not lost all season and even boasts a 1-1 draw against mighty St. Francis. The Mariners have almost incomprehensibly conceded just two
goals all season, scoring 62.
DIVISION III:
If you're a fan of high-scoring games, the Division III first round was for you, as the 10 teams involved combined to score 26 goals over the five games.
No. 12 The King's Academy, which won the Division III tournament two years ago as a No. 13 seed, got off to a strong start with a 5-1 win over Capuchino. The
division still features the co-champions from last year as Menlo joined No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep in the quarterfinals with an easy 7-0 win over Summit Prep.

vs.
12
THE KING'S ACADEMY (0-0-0)
Saturday 10:00 AM, Westmont High School
The Cardinals, who struggled past Notre Dame-San Jose, 4-3, in the first round, will certainly be on notice when they take
on a King's Academy squad from the same league. King's had no trouble in the first round, defeating PAL-Ocean champ Capuchino, 5-1.
2
SCOTTS VALLEY (0-0-0)
vs.
7
SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL (0-0-0)
Saturday 4:00 PM, St. Francis High School
The second-seeded Falcons will have their hands full with the streaking Fightin' Irish of the WCAL. SHC went undefeated in its
final four regular-season matches just to qualify for CCS and then defeated Pacific Grove, 3-0, to move into the quarterfinals.
3
HARBOR (0-0-0)
vs.
6
MENLO SCHOOL (0-0-0)
Saturday 2:00 PM, Westmont High School
Menlo jumped on top of Summit Prep with four goals early in the first half en route to a 7-0 win. Leah Swig and Cleo King
scored two goals to lead the attack. Harbor wound up with the higher seed despite qualifying as an at-large team after finishing
fourth in the SCCAL.
