The Valley Christian girls' soccer defeated Branham 4-0 Wednesday. Valley Christian is now 6-0-1, while Branham drops to 2-3-1.
“We stayed with our plan which was to move the ball around and create a lot of opportunities; we had 26 shots,” Valley Christian assistant coach Troy Carson said. “One other big thing is that we've been trying to convert on corners, where we got two goals on six corners and that was great.”
The Warriors dominated early and cruised to the finish from there. Valley's first goal came early into the half with an assist from the right side by midfielder Sara Von Wagoner that crossed past the goalie's hands and set up freshman midfielder Nicole Carson. Carson deftly deposited the ball in the net.
The Warriors followed with a right corner kick by senior Colby Carson that allowed another tap into the goal by forward Kendra Stewart.
Colby Carson finally ended the first half 3-0 with a one-on-one with Branham's goalie Stacey Choate-Ciletti where she cut to the left and shot into the left corner of the net.
The Warriors finally closed out the game in the second half with their final score with a left corner kick by senior Andrea Zenere that was then headed in by Stewart.
Branham passed the ball well with its main intent being to get the ball to one of its strongest players, senior Fatmata Kamara. Kamara was always a threat against Valley Christian, but the Warriors shut her down by placing three players on her at a time. Branham also played a very aggressive and physical defense to protect their equally aggressive goalie, but failed to cover the assists that led to several goals for Valley.
Valley's strength was its offense, particularly the Carson sisters, who wreaked havoc all game long.
Branham will meet Sobrato Jan. 2 while Valley Christian heads to Presentation Jan. 8.
